In Book 4 of The Odyssey, Telemachus arrives at the splendid palace of Menelaus and Helen in Sparta during a grand double wedding celebration. Warmly welcomed, he hears stirring tales of his father Odysseus’s cunning and bravery during the Trojan War. Menelaus reveals crucial news: Odysseus is alive but held captive by the nymph Calypso. Meanwhile, back in Ithaca, the suitors learn of Telemachus’s journey and plot his destruction.
