Latinidad, Loneliness, & Lost Selves with Dr. Ortega
The In-Between Project by Noa Richard
Episode notes
Today's guest is Dr. Mariana Ortega, philosopher and professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Penn State University. We talk about the loneliness of being an "in-betweener", how to cope in a foreign world and a new language, and how to find joy again through a renewed sense of home and self. Other topics include: today's new vocabulary surrounding "Latinx", how much better the fruit is in the homeland, and using books as a way to escape reality. Dr. Ortega is the author of In-Between: Latina Feminist Phenomenology, Multiplicity, and the Self. Learn more about her at https://philosophy.la.psu.edu/people/mariana-ortega
