When someone falls, what are we really trying to restore—their relationship with Christ, or their conformity to the church? A believer can conform to outward standards, keep quiet, and follow the rules simply out of fear of disfellowship and judgment. But outward compliance is not godly sorrow. True ministry corrects without withdrawing love. We commit a dangerous error when we confuse ecclesiastical procedures with divine forgiveness. When a sinner repents before God, do we celebrate with genuine comfort and joy—or do we place them on endless probation while demanding institutional submission?
