What happens when the story looks completely over? Today on Day 151, we experience the lowest valley and the highest mountain in biblical history. In 1 Samuel, the tragic reign of King Saul reaches its bitter end on the slopes of Mount Gilboa, as Israel is routed and their first king falls on his own sword. In absolute contrast, the Gospel of John takes us from the ultimate agony of the cross to the exploding hope of the resurrection. We hear Jesus utter His final, victorious breath, "It is finished," watch Him receive a king's burial, and then race along with Peter and John to find the stone rolled away and the burial cloths lying empty. Death does not get the final word.
