Episode notes
Join Lauren and Bally this week as we talk about one of Britain’s most enduring unsolved mysteries: Who Put Bella in the Wych Elm?
In 1943, four boys came across a hollow wych elm tree in Hagley Wood, Worcestershire, there they found the skeletal remains of a woman hidden inside. Months later, mysterious graffiti began appearing across the West Midlands asking the chilling question, “Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?” More than 80 years later, the question of who she was and who killed her remains unanswered.
For this episode, we travelled to the Wychbury Obelisk, one of the locations where the infamous graffiti appeared, to explore one of the places at the heart of this haunting mystery. We discuss the discovery, the investigation, the theories, and why this case continues to amaze people today!
