Season 2
Working at the Spiegel Fashion Catalog, The American company which started the Term Data Mining
A necessary step towards learning how a huge, and innovative company works, Sarita recalls the business and life lessons learned while at Spiegel.
McDonalds, Sarita, and the start of something Big!
Little did Sarita know that working for one of Chicago's biggest McDonalds franchisee would set a course for her future. Every job she's had laid the groundwork for what what she was to become.
A VERY Secret Society: Life in High End Domestic Service
Today we welcome two friends of Sarita's from the uber high end domestic staffing world. While no names are mentioned, between the three of them there are numerous experiences with the TRUE Billionaire class. Very interesting stuff!
The Origins of an Entrepreneur
In today's episode Sarita and Latham discuss Sarita's long and rather impressive climb up the American Culture ladder while she really had no interest in the ladder. She started the way all really great entrepreneurs did, FROM THE BOTTOM and climbed to a point of having a great View. Fascinating story, one that will resonate with so many hard working people. Sarita is the girl next door. She was not poor and not rich. She had immigrant parents who never lived like they were not expected to assimilate into America without losing their deep cultural roots. It's a love letter in many ways of her gratitude for her parents allowing her and her sisters, to be who they were even though their choices might not be so "sustainable" Enjoy this very entertaining episode.
Mari Tamburo, AKA: Mary Mack, of the Livin Like Kings Band
Mari Tamburo, singer and long time life partner of Arne Frager from The Plant Recording Studio in Sausalito, comes in to talk about her life, career, and living the rock and roll lifestyle in a very real way. Super interesting guest and perspective you don't hear very often outside of the music industry.
Arne Frager, Last Owner of the Iconic Recording Studio, The Plant Sausalito
From Beyonce, to Prince, Metallica, he has recorded them all! Probably my favorite episode ever, Arne brings the HEAT! If you are a music fan this episode is a MUST LISTEN. If you want to know about the real history of music in America and the beginnings of switching from analogue to digital and who was behind the equipment and the sales and who sat with the LEGENDS....you may listen to this a few times. Thank you Richard Habib for making the Introduction. Thank you Latham for being an amazing conversationalist and keeping us curious as always. I want to be like Arne when I grow up. The Doctor has Retired, TAKE 2!
Sarita reflects on the last 10+ years of advice to friends, family, and others, and how this open door to the "Doctors Office" never really was a truly reciprocal relationship. As I have told her for years now, "Sarita! Stop giving the milk away for free!" Sarita explains why her role in almost all of the companies she worked with and for entailed a high level of interfacing with all members of the organization whether that be employees, executives, children, outside professionals, vendors, guests, diplomats....and her office was the first stop and often the place where people were able to relax, share and get advice. She feels a role like this is essential in any high functioning, multi faceted group and it allowed her to see the interconnectedness of everyone, especially the big boss. No one was going to thrive unless everyone was taken care of. Branching on her own in 2015 and continuing to be the "therapist" for collegues, friends, family members...did not end when the paid job ended. This is a short story on what retiring from that role looks like. If you would like to be a guest or have topics you'd like the next door neighbors to talk about, please let us know. Year of The Fire Horse
Interesting discussion on this year, and it being the Year of the Fire Horse, and all of the amazing changes in the world that we are already seeing. We also reflect back on last year, the Year of the Snake, and how a TON of things really now make sense in retrospect. As always we have a lot of free-ranging discussions on society, what these strange times are doing to all of us, and what we hope to see in the future. Oh yeah, we briefly discuss Latham's encounter with a REAL ghost! If you would like to be a guest or have topics you'd like the next door neighbors to talk about, please let us know.
