10. Trump's IndyCar Race: 81 Meetings, 190 MPH, and Other Delusions From DC
Well...IndyCar is hosting a race for Trump in Washington DC next August to sportswash his presidency. But how did we get here? Lauren goes through a short timeline of events chronicling the Trump=Penske connection in recent years. Then she explores yesterday's press conference line by line and investigates the many characters involved in making this race happen. Finally, she explains the newly signed executive order and the federal statutes and regulations surrounding it. More episodes on this topic to come as things develop.
9. Michael Jordan v. NASCAR: An Economic History of NASCAR (23XI v. NASCAR pt 1)
In this episode, Lauren traces the economic history of NASCAR, from its founding in 1948 through its rise and fall in the 2000s. This episode provides the historical backdrop of the ongoing antitrust case between Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin's 23XI Racing, Front Row Motorsports, and NASCAR. 8. Viva Las Cadillac F1 Team (Andretti, F1, and the DOJ Pt. 3 Finale)
We are so back (Michael Andretti is not, though). The Andretti F1 bid got accepted, but Andretti is both involved and uninvolved in it now. Michael Andretti is no longer in charge of Andretti, which is now owned by two billionaires. Many of our favorite F1 conspirators...sorry, characters from parts 1 and 2 are back and may or may not have plotted to commit antitrust crimes over WhatsApp. It's okay, though because they undid their alleged crime and live, laugh, love GM now. But also, unsurprisingly, everyone involved ended up looking like a hypocrite, which Lauren spends most of this episode screaming about. This is...alot. Follow us! 7. The FBI at RLL, Federal Crime, and Trade Secrets
Surprise! IndyCar (allegedly) has crime now and in typical fashion, Lauren has much to say about it. In this episode, she discusses the few available media reports of what happened at RLL, federal criminal procedure, the Economic Espionage Act, and vicarious liability. Not bad for a day's worth of research.
6. Andretti, F1, and the DOJ Antitrust Investigation Pt. 2
Part 2 is finally here, and Lauren basically turned it into antitrust law 101. This episode covers how the DOJ works, a short history of antitrust law, how the DOJ-F1 case fits within current case law, and what could happen next.
5. Haas F1's Contract Problem, Venu Sports, and F1 Content Creators
Because everything is happening all the time, Lauren covers the big motorsports legal stories from the last two weeks and their implications. The Dutch government threatened to seize Haas F1’s cars & other assets over a contract dispute. IndyCar might not be available on a streaming service next year. Plus, F1 may or may not be threatening to sue fan content creators for trademark infringement. From US sanctions to preliminary injunctions to circuit splits on nominative fair use, this episode has it all. Follow us on Twitter: @StreetLegalPod Send us an email: listenstreetlegal@gmail.com
4. Andretti, F1 and the DOJ Antitrust Investigation Pt. 1
In January, Formula One denied Andretti's application to enter F1 as an 11th team. Now, 8 months later, the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Liberty Media/F1 for possible antitrust violations. In part one of this two-part series, Lauren looks at all the events leading up to the investigation and theorizes why F1 may have rejected Andretti. Sidebar: IndyCar Silly Season Reality Check
Lauren is here with an IndyCar silly season reality check and spoiler alert: it's sillier than ever. Logan Sargeant is leaving Williams & going to IndyCar (or is he?) and CGR is cutting cars & ruining Lauren's deeply held delusions.
3. Another Week, Another Arrow McLaren Drama
Arrow McLaren is involved in drama again, so Lauren recaps the week, discusses some legal issues that probably weren't involved, some non-legal things that probably were, why some people need their twitter passwords revoked, and finally, has a moment of silence for Alexander Rossi's thumb. 2. The IndyCar-Fox Sports TV Deal
Better late than never, Lauren dives into the IndyCar-Fox Sports TV Deal and attempts (& struggles) to explain the complicated legal issues surrounding Fox's new streaming joint venture, VenuSports. She wraps up the episode by conducting a reality check and airing her most unpopular opinions about the 2025 IndyCar schedule (1:18:00).
