Straight Law Cocktail - Ep. 19 - Dating? Might have to pay some alimony!

Straight Law Cocktail - with Rob and Tyler by Robert Harvie and Tyler Pollock

Episode notes

This past month the Ontario Court of Appeal in Climans v. Latner directed a man to pay over $50,000.00 in alimony to a woman he had ostensibly been dating for an extended period of time, while maintaining separate residences.

Rob and Tyler discuss this decision and the concept of "Palm Tree Justice" in relation to that decision... for those not familiar with this term, per the Chambers Dictionary: palm tree justice (uncountable) (law, derogatory) A pragmatic approach to justice that is entirely discretionary and transcends legal rights or precedent, enabling the court to make such order as it thinks fair and just in the circumstances of the case.
