In Strega Nona Meets Her Match (1993) by Tomie dePaola, Strega Nona’s friend, Strega Amelia, arrives in town and sets up a rival shop using modern, flashy gadgets instead of traditional magic. Amelia lures away all of Strega Nona's customers and even hires Big Anthony, but her "modern" methods ultimately cause a chaotic mess that makes the villagers realize Strega Nona's traditional ways are best.
