Druids were ancient Celtic priests, wise ones, spiritual teachers, and legal authorities who were highly regarded members of society. According to the Roman General Julius Caeser (who conquered the Celtic tribes in Gaul and Britain) Druidic lore consisted of a large number of memorized verses, that could take up to twenty years to complete their course of study. Druids play a prominent role in Irish folklore, generally serving lords and kings as high ranking priest-counselors with the gift of prophecy and other assorted mystical abilities.
