Episode notes

Long-term exposure to hot weather can have negative health impacts. As it turns out, some specific parts of cities are much hotter than others, sometimes by up to six degrees Fahrenheit on average. Xuewei Wang is a data scientist with UNC’s Data-Driven Envirolab, a group that has been working to create “heat maps” of urban areas. She joins Carolina Connection’s Henry Taylor to discuss new funding the Envirolab received from NASA, and what their research shows about urban heat. Carolina Connection is a production of the UNC Chapel Hill Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
