God knew Joshua was trustworthy because he willingly stood at the entrance of the tent of meeting for 40 years. Inferring from his appointment as leader after Moses, Joshua never complained of his role but focused on God’s honor; this bedrock of their relationship and humble connection enabled enabled Joshua to fill the shoes of Moses. This level of abiding created a level of trust he used to hear God from multiple supernatural methods of interaction.
