What if we treated relationships as art? Figurative line artist Jenna Hansen and I discuss this, as well as how an experiment with expressing her feelings on paper turned into a whole new aspect of her life and career. Learn more about Jenna at: www.jennamariehansen.com. This is the second artist series talk where we explore the intersection of art and relationships. The election is over. Now what? In this new landscape where big change is almost certain, perhaps it's time to reorient to our differences not from political affiliation but through basic relationship skills. When we look at it from this perspective, we can better understand the nuance of the human experience. Intimacy is, after all, the practice of two people learning how to respect their differences while connecting through common ground. In this episode, my guest Lauren Rotunno and I talk about slowing down as a way to digest emotions and realign with the power of the heart. We talk about simple and practical ways to regulate the nervous system as well as a return to basic listening skills. Lauren is a yoga educator who weaves a variety of teachings into her practice, Woven Vessels. Last year I published an episode to try and define the word 'regeneration'. When I went back and listened to it recently, I realized it was too heady. And dense. It left me feeling like it needed an update. There are many different perspectives on regeneration, but in its most basic form, regeneration is about creating mutual benefit and harmony in relationships. We can do this by using our most intelligent tool: the heart.
Kaitlin Brooks is a visual artist and UX designer based in Napa, CA. In this episode, we talk about how she finds space as a new Mom to do the things that bring her back to herself so she can be more present with her family. This includes drawing without the need to 'produce' and spending time planning an outdoor garden space that has her thinking even more deeply about her subject matter—nature. Breathwork is an incredible tool for clearing out stuck emotions. In this episode, I talk with breathwork facilitator, sound healer, and reiki master, Janine Wolf, about how breathwork can be used as a tool in going deeper into intimacy.
