This deep dive traces its 150-year evolution from a piece of Victorian fiction into hollow earth conspiracy theories, occult doctrines, deadly cult theology, and modern political dog whistles. It starts in 1873 with French colonial official Louis Jacolliot, who invented Asgartha as an ancient Indian solar capital destroyed by two Himalayan brothers who supposedly became the ancestors of the Norse.
