Episode notes
Stuart Duncan's resume runs from Dolly Parton and George Strait to Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Plant and Diana Krall. Born in Quantico, Virginia, in 1964 and raised in Santa Paula, California, he learned fiddle, mandolin, guitar and banjo, joined the Nashville Bluegrass Band in 1985, and won the Academy of Country Music's fiddle player of the year award five times.
This episode follows his move into Nashville session work, tours with Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris, the Raising Sand tour with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, jazz dates with Diana Krall, and the Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile and Aoife O'Donovan, an album that debuted at number one on three Billboard charts the same day. We close with his fiddle on T Bone Burnett's Bob Dylan re-recordings and a 2025 tour with Alison Krauss and Union Station.
