Hangin with the Voice of Your Childhood! (Industry Guest Chat with Katie Leigh)

Ohhhh boy are you in for a treat today! Sam and Izzy got to hang out with the one and only Katie Leigh, and now it's your turn to hang with all of us!!! Katie is almost definitely one of the most prolific voices of your childhood - if you think you've never heard her...I'm going to hazard a guess that you're wrong lol. Listen to us talk about basically everything under the sun and then some (to paraphrase Katie quoting Anne of Green Gables, "If only you knew what we don't say..."). And when you're done soaking in all of her wisdom and laughing at our antics, you can check out the many projects that she's got in the works! Resources from this episode: Katie's website and IMDb Tell Ya Later Podcast and Patreon Books! We were Serious about Book Club! (The Bilingual Brain by Albert Costa)

We told you we could read! To start October (aka "Celebrating the Bilingual Child" Month) off right, Sam and Izzy are talking about The Bilingual Brain by Albert Costa - a fascinating book about the science of language and how it impacts all of us from birth (or even earlier!) to old age. We've also got some resources for those of you who are raising and/or teaching some bilingual children yourself! Read along with us all month - we'll be reading this book all October and discussing our final takeaways in our second Book Club episode, before we reveal the next book on deck! And we want to hear your opinions too, so tell us what you think and let us know if you have any book/tv recommendations about language: you can send us a voice note through the link at the bottom of these show notes, message us on Instagram, or leave a comment on our YouTube channel. Can't wait to hear from youuu!!! Industry Guest Chat with Ruth Morrison (Writing and Improv and Clowns, Oh My!)

Have you ever thought about writing for kids' shows? On a related note, do you have what it takes to get yelled at by a pair of angry clowns? Well Ruth Morrison did, so you're going to want to hear what she has to say about it...We also talk about the many aspects of the world of children's animated shows and podcasts! That's right, we're all about giving you as much bang for your buck as possible. Join Sam and Izzy as they have the best time hanging with Ruth and chatting about her career, playing a classic game of "Am I the Butthead?" (ok fine, we invented it, but it will be a classic...eventually), and hearing her perspective on the future of the industry at large. It'll fly by faster than you can say "Animixer" (...you'll understand that in a minute)! Mentioned in this episode: Carrie Miller Joey Ahlbum and his YouTube channel "The Magic Conch" in 5 minutes! eVOcation Conference New York Animixer! A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Oregon...(Our first ever "Kids Again!" episode)

Remember the good old days of sitting in the computer lab and playing a nice, relaxing game of Oregon Trail…well apparently Sam and Izzy remembered it with the help of some rose-colored glasses, because for this "Kids Again!" episode they decided to put themselves through the freakin wringer one more time! That’s what a couple decades of distance will do to you! Come along with them as they remember what it’s like to be personally victimized by The Oregon Trail! You’ll get to listen to two adult women navigate the joys of cholera, dysentery, and missing oxen with their pioneer family whose names are completely normal and cool - and if you make it to the end of the episode, we might have a special prize waiting for you…but don’t get too excited lol. If you’re feeling particularly masochistic, you can play some Oregon Trail, yourself, through this link: https://oregontrail.ws/games/the-oregon-trail/ And make sure to follow us on Instagram to stay up to date with *gestures vaguely* y'know... https://www.instagram.com/pbjssamandizzy/

Our Very First Childhood Icon Shoutout: Robert Munsch!

Not many people can say their career as a prolific children’s author started with dropping out of priesthood training, but Robert Munsch certainly can! In our first Childhood Icon Shoutout episode, Izzy tells Sam all about her favourite (yes, the u is intentional) award-winning Canadian children’s author...and to be honest, there’s probably even more to tell, but we didn’t have the three hours it would take to cover everything. Ask anyone who went to school in Canada and they can tell you their favourite Munsch book in a heartbeat…or ask Isabella and she can list several - and she does! We talk about some of his most popular works, from the heartbreaking Love You Forever, to the hilarious Paper Bag Princess, and we have a heck of a time while we’re doing it. He’s been inducted into the Order of Canada, has his own star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, has won multiple awards over the years, and if this is your first time learning about him, Robert Munsch is about to win your heart. So let’s get into it!
