In a culture that prizes self-improvement and self-actualization, it seems a strange—even blasphemous—thing to encourage self-sacrifice. But if it is our hope and intention to imitate Jesus, then we cannot escape his call to live lives of self-giving love: precisely the kind of love he demonstrated on the cross.
