Brash Peter is unable to imagine just how profoundly misplaced his self-confidence is. He is sure that he stands taller than all others who claim to follow Jesus—until, that is, he does precisely the thing that he swore he would never do: he denies his teacher and Lord to save his own skin. Peter's famous failure exposes the universality of human frailty and it shows us that even our stumbles can advance God's good work in this world.
