The Cari Farver case is a notorious true-crime case involving murder, identity theft, and years of deception.

In 2012, Cari Farver, a 37-year-old single mother from Iowa, disappeared shortly after beginning a relationship with Dave Kroupa. After her disappearance, Kroupa, his family, and others received thousands of threatening emails and text messages that appeared to come from Farver, leading many to believe she had become an obsessive stalker.

Years later, investigators discovered that Farver had actually been murdered shortly after she vanished. The messages had been sent by Shanna Golyar, another woman who had been involved with Kroupa. The case gained renewed attention through the 2024 Netflix documentary Lover, Stalker, Killer.
