Episode notes
Ed Kemper (full name Edmund Emil Kemper III) is an American serial killer active in California in the early 1970s.
He murdered 10 people between 1964 and 1973, including his grandparents, several young women (mostly college students), and his own mother. Because he often picked up hitchhikers, he became known as the “Co-ed Killer.”
Kemper stood out for his high intelligence (reportedly an IQ of 145) and his ability to appear calm and cooperative, which helped him evade suspicion for a time. After killing his mother in 1973, he turned himself in to the police and confessed to all his crimes.
He was convicted in 1973 and is serving multiple life sentences at the California Medical Facility.
