Navigating the Industry Guidelines & Surgical Challenges of Type A Aortic Dissections
How do you best manage Type A Aortic Dissections? To answer this question, we’ll hear from Dr. Nimesh Desai, the Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery research program at Penn Medicine and Dr. Chris Mehta, Associate Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery program at Northwestern Medicine in discussion with Dr. Joseph Bavaria, Vice Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Penn Medicine. They will review the accepted guidelines for Type A Aortic dissections and the surgical challenges they face. A Blueprint to Balancing OR Cost, Quality and Outcomes
How can hospitals leverage their own data to improve operational challenges? And can hospitals enhance clinical quality metrics driven to reduce intraoperative blood loss and transfusions without compromising those operational improvements? To answer these questions, we’ll speak with Dora Mefsouti, Senior Clinical Supply Chain Manager and Dr. Allen Chudzinski, Director of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Division Chief of Surgery & Digestive Health, both from AdventHealth Tampa. They will share their experiences partnering with Baxter on the Advantage Program, an intra-operative hemostasis management program designed to help hospitals and healthcare providers improve hemostasis utilization practices.
Intraoperative Hemostasis: The Coagulation Cascade and the Role of Hemostatic Agents
Active and passive hemostatic agents are not interchangeable, and act differently based on the patient’s coagulation profile. Some agents are effective in heparinized and/or anticoagulated treated patients whereas others may have limited effectiveness in those same patients. In this episode, Dr. Jessica Stine joins us to share her experience treating patients with both active and passive hemostatic agents and the factors they weigh when choosing the most appropriate product.
The Reduction of Surgical Complications through Adhesion Prevention
Adhesions are a major cause of small bowel obstruction, infertility and chronic pelvic pain. They can also result in serious clinical complications which may lead to significantly lower quality of life in patients, longer hospital stays, increased hospitalization, and higher costs. In this episode, Dr. Steven D. Wexner, director of the Digestive Disease Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida, joins us to share the impact adhesions have had on his patients’ health and what measures he utilizes to prevent debilitating adhesions.
