Do We Worship Our Ancestors? My Relationship With God & Ancestors

What is the difference between worshipping God, honouring our ancestors and acknowledging them? Every evening, I light a candle before I pray. I speak to God, and I speak to my ancestors. One evening, I caught myself wondering: What is the difference between these relationships? In this episode of Notes with Nomfundo, I explore the meaning of acknowledgement, honour and worship and how I understand each one within my own spiritual journey. I reflect on calling ancestral names through izithakazelo, recognising where we come from, honouring ancestors through traditions, offerings and values, and why I personally understand worship as belonging to God. This conversation is also part of my journey of decolonising my mind—questioning beliefs and definitions I've inherited and giving myself permission to develop my own understanding through reflection and experience. I say "today" because I allow myself room to change as I learn. This is simply where my understanding is today.
