Do Children Owe Their Parents for Raising Them?
Do children owe their parents something simply because they raised them? We grow up hearing about everything our parents sacrificed for us—the time, money, opportunities, sleepless nights, and years spent putting their children first. But does that sacrifice create a debt we're expected to repay? In this episode of Not That Simple, I question the difference between gratitude and obligation, love and responsibility, healthy boundaries and selfishness—and whether good parents deserve something in return simply because they were good parents. I started with a very simple answer: No, children don't owe their parents for raising them. By the end… it wasn't that simple anymore. So here's the question: Do we owe our parents anything? And if we do—what? Not That Simple — one question, too many sides, no easy answer.
