The “upper room” chapters of John begin with Jesus washing the feet of his disciples. In this part of the story, the weightiest and most central teachings of the Christian faith are portrayed: the willing humiliation of Christ, the necessity and sufficiency of his sacrifice, the response of faith, the prevalence of human depravity, and the demise of evil.
