Our culture puts so much emphasis on achievement: Sit up straight. Do your best. Get good grades. Get into a good school. Get a good job. It is no wonder so many people transfer this thinking to their relationship with God, believing that somehow they have to earn God’s love—an endeavor that is wrought with failure. The Bible declares, however, that it is not by our works that we are saved but by God’s grace and his grace alone. Through faith in Jesus we receive the benefits Christ alone was capable of establishing for us. Fully God and fully human—the perfect human without fault, Jesus died on the cross in our place. In God’s infinite love we are saved through Jesus’ self-sacrifice. Plain and simple. Listen as Dr. Bob Jordan leads us through 2 Corinthians 5:21.
