Our fundamental calling in Christ can be described as participating in the divine nature. By this phrase, the author of 2 Peter lets us know that to follow Christ is to pursue a life defined by the very ethics of God—something that makes us different indeed. We are absolutely saved by faith, which is a gift from God. Yet the faith we receive is to translate into a life in which we make every effort to grow in the characteristics that align with God’s own character.
