Good morning. New Mexico. I'm Michael Mosby.
Folks, buckle up. A powerful cold front is slamming through the state right now. And it's bringing wind that'll test every loose object you forgot to tie down.
Winds are already howling, northern New Mexico sees gusts to 40 miles an hour through mid-morning. Central areas? Peak around noon with 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts. The Sacramento Mountains? High Wind Warning until early afternoon — gusts could hit 60. That's strong enough to snap branches and knock out power.
Here's the dangerous part. Those winds are combining with humidity dropping to 5 to 10 percent this afternoon. Red Flag Warnings cover northern and central New Mexico, while any spark spreads fast. No outdoor burning today. Period.
