Episode notes
Welcome to Episode 20 of the Marine Enthusiasts Podcast! In today’s episode, hosts Gwenevere, & Skylar take you through the bewitching underwater formations known as Hydrothermal Vents! They are fissures, meaning cracks in the Earth from which lava erupts without volcanic activity, where seawater is superheated by magma, then shot out, populating the surrounding water with important nutrients such as Phosphorus, Methane Clathrates, Hydrogen Sulfide, Carbon Dioxide, & Nitrogen. These vents support rich, diverse life, from tube worms, to chemosynthetic bacteria, to clams.
