You Walked In is a jangle-pop song inspired by “The One Who Walked In,” an episode of Love Letters to Forgotten Things.

It’s about a blind date in the late 1990s that almost never happened.

Both of us sat in our cars beforehand, seriously considering leaving. We had each been through enough romantic wreckage to know how easily another date could turn into another mess. I was told she was “perfect for me,” which sounded suspiciously like the kind of thing people say right before introducing you to someone who absolutely isn’t.

I eventually went inside and started looking for the woman I’d been told to expect: black hair, goth, reader, wine drinker. I even spotted somebody who fit the description and began walking toward her.

Then the door opened.
