Throwing time, money, and things of value down the drain is wasteful, but Solomon actually encourages us to do so! We ought to be the kind of people who don't spend our live how we want, but rather have Jesus invest our lives how He wants. But being a "blank check" for Christ looks wasteful, and even foolish: spending time, money, and resources on other people, for the Kingdom, for neighbors, and friends. Exhausting ourselves mentally and physically for the sake of others. But if we do the hard, good work ahead of time by sharpening our blades, we will reap a reward that enables us to give freely and liberally to others.
