We tend to only see what we want to see, or what we have trained ourselves to see. When we hear something we don't like, we find ways to have it not apply to us. Our inner lawyer comes out to defend us and get us off the hook. But Jesus came to set us free from this spiritual blindness and hypocrisy. He came to shine light into darkness and give us real life and freedom. But following Jesus means letting Him expose your sin, your blind spots, hypocrisy, comforts, selfish preferences, past disappointments, weaknesses, misguided desires, missed opportunities and regrets, wishful thinking, judgementalism, and any other idolatries in our hearts.
