This famous 3-word phrase Jesus utters on the cross, "It is Finished", was actually just a single word in the original Greek: Tetelestai, meaning "It has been and will forever remain finished" and "paid in full." This begs the question...what is the "it" that has been finished? While we will never fully grasp the breadth and magnitude of what Jesus completed in His time on earth, or the specific work on the cross, we do know that it is simultaneously cosmic and eternal while also deeply personal to each of us. Jesus' work shows us God's holy, just hatred of our sin and His gracious, understanding love of sinners like you and me. We find rest today in knowing that Jesus' work has been and will forever remain finished.
