He joins the Audio-Visual Club and wrestling team, gaining small freedoms, but also becomes immersed in the stoner culture of Tim Riberdy’s basement, where pot and classic rock become a nightly refuge. The nickname “Lids” emerges as he leans into this new identity, using marijuana to dull the chaos at home and school.
