There is something important in the distinction Elise Beatrice makes here: the sermon uses the language of “prospering,” but then deliberately takes that word away from the worldly definition of prosperity and brings it back to the Kingdom of God. The heart of it is not given so that you can become rich, but rather: What does it mean to be rich before God? Where is our treasure? What has God entrusted to us, and what are we doing with it? That makes Proverbs 11 sit very naturally beside Jesus’ words in Matthew 6.
