For the past two thousand years churches everywhere have regularly celebrated communion. It is a wonderful gift that Jesus gave to us where we remember the love Jesus has for us and the hope we have in Him. Yet in the midst of regularly celebrating this sacrament we can easily forget, overlook, or become numb to the glory of what we are remembering and celebrating. 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 reminds us of both the gravity and goodness of what we are celebrating in communion. It calls us to ask if there are ways we may be celebrating communion (or gathering as a church) that are out of step with the gospel.
