How Cancer Begins
Episode 1 In this first episode, we try to understand cancer in a simple way—what it actually is and how it starts inside the body. Normally, our cells follow a strict life cycle: they grow, do their job, and when something goes wrong, they die so new healthy cells can take their place. But in cancer, something changes. A single cell stops listening to these rules. Instead of dying when it should, it keeps surviving and dividing, over and over again. In this episode, we look at how that one “rebellious” cell can slowly turn into something dangerous, how tumours form, and why cancer is not just one disease but many different ones with a shared beginning. It’s a story about what happens when the body’s most basic system—control over life and death at the cellular level—breaks down.
