THE RIVER (1951) - Don't Play with Cobras or Fall for One-Legged Older Captains If You're Young
I'm Reviewing Here! by Matthew Bussy
Episode notes
Special guest (my FIRST EVER! AHH!) and fellow film buff/podcaster Margaret Picklechips joins me to talk about Jean Renoir's GORGEOUSSSS Technicolor masterpiece, THE RIVER. It's a coming-of-age story by the son of famous French Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir and it's set in British India after WWII and there's this attractive American captain who comes in but he has one leg and all the girls are like "oooooo" and the main character who's like 12 falls for him but doesn't understand that it could never work and there's beautiful scenery and Indian music and cobras and colors and food and dancing and a really bad kissing scene but like don't let that ruin the movie for you because all the kissing in old movies is egregious.
