Restoring God’s Foundation may be considered controversial because it addresses issues that challenge many of today’s cultural values. Yet its purpose is not to condemn people, but to present what the Bible teaches about creation, marriage, the Sabbath, human identity, sin, and restoration. Beginning with God’s perfect creation and ending with the call to “build the old waste places” and “raise up the foundations of many generations” (Isaiah 58:12), the song calls us back to God’s original design. Its message is ultimately one of restoration: “In the beginning, things were not so” (Matthew 19:8).
