A guitarist since the age of nine, Dr. Doug Syme has performed in nearly every conceivable type of ensemble throughout a career that has spanned four decades. From solo jazz or classical guitar, duos with innumerable instrumentalists and / or vocalists, rock, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, big band, and musical theater, Dr. Syme has done it all. He is also quite active as a teacher, maintaining an active private teaching studio, serving as the director of jazz studies at the Milwaukee HS of the Arts from 2001-2023 (MHSA), the rhythm section coach for WI state honors jazz ensemble (2020-2022), and was the Wisconsin Music Education Association (WMEA) state chair for jazz education (2014-2018).
