In February 1836 a small garrison of Texian and Tejano defenders held an old Spanish mission in San Antonio against a far larger Mexican army under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. For thirteen days they refused surrender. On the morning of March 6 the walls fell and nearly every defender died.
