In John 4:27–42, Jesus continues His conversation with the Samaritan woman and teaches His disciples about the true source of His satisfaction: doing the will of the Father and accomplishing His work.
The Samaritan woman leaves her water pot behind and returns to the city, inviting the people to come and see the Christ. Her testimony leads many Samaritans toward Jesus, providing a vivid picture of the spiritual harvest Jesus tells His disciples is already ready.
Jesus teaches that the harvest is not something to be postponed. The fields are already white for harvest, and those who reap gather fruit for eternal life. The work belongs to God, and His servants enter into the labor of those who have gone before them.
