Traditional medicine of the Pirot region combines centuries of folk experience, magical practice, and Christian elements into a holistic approach to healing, relying on over 320 medicinal plants. The knowledge and skills of healers and herbalists were passed down through generations within families, bridging medieval and folk medicine. However, this valuable ethnomedical heritage is now threatened by depopulation and the emptying of rural areas.
