This week, we are joined by Göran Nyström. Until recently, Göran was the Chief technology Officer (CTO) at leading European specialty steel producer Ovako; now his role is as Senior Advisor to the company.

Ovako has taken on a fantastic journey to carbon neutrality, which includes various tools, such as, voluntary carbon offsets, buying only renewable electric power, increase of direct energy-efficiency, reuse of heat, replacement of fossil fuel with hydrogen.

With Göran we discuss all this, and with a certain focus on their leading use of oxyfuel for energy-efficient combustion and being the first steel producer in the world to heat their steel with hydrogen as a fuel. Another very interesting aspect is the flexibility Ovako has created in their energy supply, which supports agility in the transition to carbon neutrality.
