Gestation 004, Part 1 — Is There an Author? begins a new sequence of conversations about authorship, identity, characters, and artificial participants. G.H. Hovagimyan, Remo Campopiano, and Adrianne Wortzel consider what happens to the idea of the author when thought and language are distributed across several people, archives, synthetic voices, and AI systems. The conversation moves between artistic collaboration, performance, memory, and the possibility that a character can begin to function as an active participant rather than simply as a representation. Gestation is an evolving podcast and conversational artwork. Rather than treating the podcast as documentation of a finished project, Gestation uses the conversation itself as the artwork: a live experiment in distributed cognition, shifting identities, and networked thought.
