Nehemiah 11–12 shows us what happens after walls are rebuilt, commitments are made, and the community is restored.

Now people must actually take their places.

Chapter 11 focuses on where the people will live and how the restored community will function.

Jerusalem had strong walls, but the city still needed residents.

Leaders lived there.

Lots were cast so that one out of every ten people would also move into Jerusalem.

Others volunteered willingly.

Priests, Levites, gatekeepers, servants, families, and workers were assigned to different responsibilities.

The lesson is clear:

A restored city needs people willing to live, serve, sacrifice, and take responsibility.

Chapter 12 then turns toward worship.

Priests and Levites are remembered by name.
