Episode notes

Around 9 pm on February 4th, 1974, Patty Hearst received unexpected visitors at her door. When she went to answer, several men and a woman burst inside. The intruders proceeded to beat up Patty’s fiancé and grabbed Patty, tied her up, blindfolded her, and led her off only to be thrown into the trunk of their car before speeding off. For the next 57 days, Patty Hearst endured brutal treatment of her kidnappers and soon began displaying vulnerability during her captivity. Over the next several weeks, recordings were sent to news media outlets, giving authorities the impression that Patty had begun to show sympathy toward her kidnappers. Is this the case, or was Patty simply trying to survive?
