Discover the powerful story of Durkeeville, one of Jacksonville’s most historic African American communities—a neighborhood built through resilience, unity, and determination. In Episode 7 of Culture Keepers of Florida by FAAHPN, host Jayvon Adams joins Lloyd Washington of the Durkeeville Historical Society to explore the neighborhood’s remarkable history, the former Durkeeville Museum, and the community leaders working to preserve its legacy. The journey also visits Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park, honoring Jacksonville natives James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson and the anthem that inspired generations. The journey continues with an exciting tour of the newly renovated John P. Small Baseball and Hank Aaron Field, unveiling the conversion what was once an under-the-stands concession stand to a breathtaking Negro League Museum.
