The Gibeonites, realizing they couldn’t defeat Israel, deceived Joshua by pretending to be from a distant land. Without seeking God’s counsel, Israel made a peace treaty with them. When the deception was discovered, Israel kept their oath but made the Gibeonites servants. Soon after, five Amorite kings attacked Gibeon for aligning with Israel. Joshua responded by defending them, and God gave Israel a miraculous victory—sending hailstones from heaven and making the sun stand still to prolong the battle. This week highlights the mercy of God even when we fail to ask Him for help or rely on His presence.
