Teacher's Lounge // the first 5 weeks back in-person & what (not) to do when your student throws up
Join us every other episode for a “Teacher’s Lounge” segment where Drea & Luna relax, chat, and reflect on what’s been happening in their lives as teachers in Detroit. Recorded in early October, Drea and Luna debrief their first 5 weeks back in-person after a whole year+ virtual. Listen as we spill the hot tea on how we handle after-lunch/recess upchucks, build relationships with students and staff, and teach phonics with our masks on all day. How do we do it?! Someone give us teachers a raise, sabbatical, and free tea for a year! Here are a few noteworthy updates since those first 5 weeks… 11/16: Michigan leads the nation in new Covid-19 cases per population (The Detroit News) Pfizer vaccines are now available for children 5-12 years old (aka our students, yay!) Luna’s sense of safety with her building has plummeted to evident danger with its inconsistent cleaning and short staff, experienced throughout the district. She’s had 1 covid case in her classroom and 3 outbreaks in the building. Hosted by Alexandrea Somers & Luna Terauchi. Edited by Micheal Mitchell.
