The Chargers opened the preseason with a convincing 27-7 win over the Houston Texans, and there was a lot to like on both sides of the football.
With Justin Herbert and several starters sitting, Mike McDaniel’s offense still put up over 400 total yards with the backups, while the Chargers defense forced turnovers, created opportunities and shut Houston out in the second half.
But not everything was perfect. I’ll give you my thoughts on Trey Lance’s performance, the players who stood out, the offensive line, the running game, DJ Uiagalelei making the most of his opportunity, and what this first preseason game told me about the depth of this Chargers roster.
